One of the main conditions for the development of the country is to adopt the right plan. Timely accurate statistics required for proper planning. The more accurate the statistics, the easier it will be for policy makers to plan and make decisions. Recognizing the importance of statistics in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics was established in 1974 as a single national statistical institute and the Statistics Department was set up in 1975 under the Ministry of Planning to provide cooperation at the ministry level in all matters relating to statistics. In 2012, the department was renamed as the Department of Statistics and Information Management. It is the responsibility of the Bureau of Statistics to formulate development plans for the country and provide reliable and up-to-date information for administrative activities. In addition, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics is regularly responsible for the collection, compilation and publication of various data for the use of planners, public and private research institutes, various international organizations and the public engaged in the formulation of national and local plans. On the other hand, the Department of Statistics and Information Management sets all the policies related to national statistics and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics takes necessary steps for the implementation of the policy.
