Formulation of Statistics Act-2013 with the passage of Statistics Act in the great National Assembly on 27 February 2013.
The National Strategy for Development of Statistics (NSDS) was formulated in 2013 with the aim of formulating short, medium and long term plans for the overall development of the country's statistical system.
Keeping in view the Digital Vision of the present government, all the data of all censuses and surveys of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics have been stored in the server and the information of departments, districts, upazilas / police stations, unions and mouzas has been presented digitally through Web enable GIS based Information System. In addition to providing demographic information and data of different mouzas, unions, thanas / upazilas, districts and divisions of Bangladesh through GIS map and providing information services. Geo-Master file is saved by BBS and is used by other government agencies.
Correct and specify the names of administrative divisions, districts, upazilas / thanas, unions, mouzas, villages, city corporations, municipalities, mahallas and key point installations in Bengali and English, to give a legal status to all these specific names, geo code A Strengthening Geo Coding System program has been adopted to provide numbers.
Maps of all mouzas / mahallas have been prepared using GIS Software. GIS map makes it easy to present map based information in any area. The use of this map has increased census coverage and improved the quality of census and survey.
BBS has prepared Bangladesh Poverty Map in 2010 with the financial and technical support of the World Bank and the United Nations World Food Program for the purpose of determining and supplying poverty based on small area of the country. As a result, the map is playing an important role in helping the poor in government development and social security.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics conducts a sample vital registration system survey and regularly publishes annual projected population, birth rate, mortality rate, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, life expectancy, marital / divorce rate, arrival-departure rate, contraceptive use rate and disability rate.
